Kennedy Soccer Goal Keeper Camp

At Kennedy Soccer, we are building our program around a new tradition of tough, smart and stingy defence, and excellence in goal keeping is central to our focus on not allowing the ball in our net. Goal keeping should never be an afterthought, so we are working hard on a reputation for developing outstanding goalies. We invite high school goal tenders, all genders, from Denver Public Schools and beyond, to take their skills to the next level at our summer camp.

Kennedy Goal Keeper Coach Manny Luna

Kennedy Goal Keeper Coach Manny Luna, with assistance from Head Coach Matt Salis, leads our camp instruction and activities. Coach Manny had a championship collegiate career after graduating from Denver South High School in 2017. Manny has trained under some of the best goal keeper coaches in the business including University of Denver Men’s Coach Brandyn Bumpas and Colorado Rapids MLS Coach Chris Sharpe.

Camp Focus Areas

The Kennedy Goal Keeper Camp offers players the opportunity to develop with, and compete against, other high school keepers from DPS schools and beyond in these key goal keeping areas of focus:

  • Diving Technique
  • Distribution
  • 50/50s and Breakaways
  • Footwork
  • High Balls
  • Setting a Wall
  • Effective Communication

We coach goal keepers to come off of their line and stay connected to their defenders, and command respect while managing the formation from the back. Goalies who play with us will build both the skills and the confidence vital in a demanding high school season.

Why Coach Competing Schools?

We welcome keepers who play on both girls and boys high school soccer teams to participate in our camp. While our target is Denver Public Schools players, we invite goalies from other Colorado high schools to join us as well. Why are we so eager to train our competition? There are three main reasons.

First, our players get better when they interact with and compete against other players. Expanding the camp beyond our Kennedy keepers makes our goalies better. Second, the better our DPS 5A and 4A leagues are, the more important league wins become in state rankings.

Third, Coach Manny and Coach Matt love interacting with a variety of kids and helping players with diverse backgrounds reach their potentials.

What are our camp alumni saying?

Keshaun Bell, KSGKC Summer 2022

“I really wanted to get better at goal kicks, and once I learned the techniques, it made everything a lot easier. You guys made all the drills game-like…keep all the drills like that!” – Keshaun Bell, Thomas Jefferson High School

Charlotte Smith, KSGKC Summer 2022

“This camp was an amazing opportunity for me to become a better keeper. It is important to be flexible with your own skills because you are there to learn, not to prove you are perfect. I loved being able to be with keepers from across DPS, and I loved that it was co-ed as well.” – Charlotte Smith, Denver South High School

Uzzi Navarro, KSGKC Summer 2022

“Having players in camp from other schools made it more competitive. It made me want to become better, and it made me face more challenges that I have not faced prior to the camp.” – Uzzi Navarro, Kennedy High School
